RAF Memorial

 A stained glass window in All Saints' Church is dedicated to the memory of airmen who died in action during the Wars. 

There is a panel in Longstanton Village Institute dedicated  to all the  Airforce Squadrons and Army Regiments who served from Oakington - formerly RAF Oakington and later Oakington Barracks - from 1940 to 1999.

All Saints' Church is the spiritual home of

the Royal Air Force 7 Squadron

which was based at the Oakington airfield, straddling the two parishes of Longstanton and Oakington, for over four and a half years during WW2, flying 456 raids, over 5000 sorties. 78 Stirlings and 87 Lancasters never returned from their missions. Near the War Memorial, the national War Hero Charles Lofthouse OBE, DFC, posted to 7 Sqd in 1943, is the last airman to rest in Longstanton since 2002. Read our village tribute in the Parish Plan 2005 - 2015 Summary Report.
