Community Access Point Computers

The community access point scheme, provided by South Cambs District Council, offers the public access to two computers connected to the Internet, colour printers, scanners and digital camera card readers.

Anyone can use the community computers:

'GUIDE', an all in one computer programme with speech and large print software, has been installed in Spring 2007 (funded by Cambs. LSC, Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities. Funded and administered by Cam Sight and CP Learning Trust)

What can I do there?

  • Check emails and send e-mails (web-based such as Yahoo or Hotmail)
  • Keep in touch with family
  • Write letters/documents etc (eg CVs perhaps)
  • Access information and services
  • Produce household accounts
  • Scan photos and documents
  • Learn basic computer skills (supervision and tutor support will be available to help you do this)
  • Scan and read books and letters
  • Magnify handwriting, diagrams and pictures
  • Play CDs and MP3s
  • Use a calculator

“ If you have never tried using a computer before, just come along and I will be only too glad to share my small amount of knowledge with you to get you started. You would be surprised how much you can do very easily and quickly: and there is absolutely no danger of damaging the machines - they have been fool-proofed by the Council for public use.
Please give me a call to say that you would like to come along.”
