Annual Parish Meeting 2005: Parish Plan community consultation

Sponsored by Longstanton Parish Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council
With advice and guidance from ACRE

The Longstanton Parish Plan project began in March 2004 with a steering group of four which had increased to eight by May 2004. The questionnaire was distributed in July 2004 to every households and business concerns in the village. By April 2005 the 90 page technical report, the summary report and a draft of the action plan were displayed at the Annual Parish Meeting for further community consultation.

In Autumn 2004 we participated in the SCDC Local Development Framework Consultation process, submitting 47 responses from your questionnaire results, as well as submitting further representations in  2005 and in 2006.

We have had an input into the CROW survey (Cambridgeshire Rights of Way) and two of our group attended the first of the Northstowe Community Development workshop held at Bar Hill on 15 January 2005.

The Committee  developed valuable and helpful contacts with councillors and officers of South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.

Informal social gatherings were organised which stimulated a great deal of interest for the village and its future.

The Parish Action Plan was adopted by the Parish Council on the 13th of February 2006,  the independent committee was dissolved and the Parish Council is now responsible for the  Action Plan 'wish list'.

This has been very hard but rewarding work and is a tremendous effort for such a small team working on a very tight budget to stringent deadlines. There are some minor and major issues to be considered and implemented from the Action Plan wish list and I hope that all in Longstanton will involve themselves in the decision and implementation making process.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with this project in one way or an other. Our distributors and collectors need a special thank you for giving up their free time to help us. I would also like to thank all those who served on the Parish Plan Committee, our analyst Dr Kathy McVittie, and all commercial concerns who contributed donations.

Last, but not least, I am indebted to Francoise Close, our Secretary and Tony Cowley, our Publication Officer, both of whom have shown unfailing commitment to this project.
